5 Things You Should Do After Buying a New Computer

Updated: Sep 11, 2018

Getting a new computer is really exciting but setting it up can get frustrating, but don't worry, this post will make sure you don't miss anything important and how to do it right!

This article applies to all kinds of Windows machines that run Windows 10 or Windows 8.

1. Login With Your Microsoft Account

If you used a Windows 10 or Windows 8 machine before as well you can easily get all your settings back (like background and other) on your new machine by simply signing in to your Microsoft account.

2. Update Your Machine

When you get a new Windows machine it might not have the latest security updates and may be vulnerable, so we recommend Updating your machine after you get a new one. Usually Windows does it self, but to be sure that you have the latest updates you can go to settings by clicking the windows button and pressing the settings button at the bottom left.

Then go to the update and security tab

Then click on check for updates.

5. Get Rid of that Bloatware!!!

Many companies like Asus and Acer ship there laptops with a ton of bloatware. Bloatware are basically the programs that are pre-installed on your computer out of the box, and all that software is there because the manufacturer gets paid for pre-installing it on there devices. Most of these programs are useless but some can be useful. We recommend taking a look and then choosing which ones to delete. We discussed in one of our previous article how removing bloatware helps speed up your PC.

You can easily delete the unnecessary programs by going to settings, and then Apps.

Be mindful of the apps you delete as some of them can be very important for running your system while others though aren't important, are definitely a good thing to have.

Don't be afraid to remove the previous third party anti-virus software like Norton and McAfee. These software aren't the best ( they are actually pretty annoying to have because of the pop-ups) and can be easily replaced by either a free anti-virus or a paid one. However don't remove Windows Defender.

4. Download all important apps QUICK!

It's a frustrating process to download every individual app like Chrome, VLC Media player etc by going to it's website.

However to make things super quick you can easily head to ninite.com. Ninite allows you to download all the popular programs you want to download at once rather than downloading each and every program by going to it's website, finding the download button, and all the processes.

You can choose only the programs you like and then get your ninite and download all of them once.

5. Protect Your Machine!

Downloading an infected file and getting ad-ware on your computer is the worst. But you can prevent that from happening by downloading a well-known Anti-virus that is useful and doesn't annoy you with a ton of pop-ups.

If you're looking for a free option we recommend to get either AVG anti-virus or Avast anti-virus, both of these do an amazing job at protecting your PC.

If you plan on spending some money to protect your system, we recommend to Kaspersky or Bit-defender as these are the best in class Anti-virus.

If you want an Anti-malware, you can get Malware-bytes.
