Why not to buy a gaming laptop

Laptops brought a revolutionary change to the world of computers! They made your computers much more portable and easy to carry, but they were still really thick compared to modern day laptops

However today tech has advanced and laptops have gotten much thinner and much more powerful but buying a laptop for gaming is still a very bad option.

Don't get me wrong, laptops are definitely the choice if you want to game on the go, but if you're someone who mostly plays games in his setup then getting a laptop for gaming is not the best of ideas. Here's why:

Laptops provide less bang for buck in terms of performance. A $700 laptop will play games much worse compared to a custom PC for $700. That's becuase you're paying the price of portability!

Laptop hardware is much more weaker compared to Desktop hardware. If you see a laptop with an i7 CPU and you think it's really awesome and equilent to that of a desktop grade i7 you're very wrong.

Desktop grade i7's are much better in terms of performance than laptop i7's in fact most of the laptop grade i7's are weaker than Desktop grade i3's. But a laptop grade i7 is certainly more expensive than a Desktop level i3.

That's due to the low TDP (thermal design power) of laptop grade CPUs. They recquire less power and produce less heat.

Another reason why laptops suck at gaming compared to Desktops is because of the GPUs. Similar to the CPUs the laptop GPU variant is not equally good to it's Desktop variant.

The reason manufacturers just can't slam in Desktop grade hardware in Laptops is because of the heat! Laptops are getting thinner and thinner however as you start reducing the thickness you start loosing ways to cool down hardware. It's generally hard to cool down components in a laptop due to the size. The fans are smaller the heat sinks are smaller and there isn't any space to slam in bigger fans or more fans!

So moral of the story. You shouldn't buy a lapotp for gaming, if you can build yourself a PC as it will give you a much better bang for buck. That's because PC parts are usually more powerful than Laptop parts due to heat issues!
