While many people are talking about the release of phones like the Google Pixel 3 and the Razer Phone 2, Samsung released the A9, which brings in the most change compared to others!

Because the A9 is no ordinary phone!

The new Samsung A9 doesn't come with just 1 or 2 cameras it comes with a whopping 5 CAMERAS! It has 4 Cameras at the rear and 1 at the front.

However it's pretty surprising to see that while Samsung has added on 4 freaking cameras, Google is still sticking with one and letting the software do all the hard-work, whereas other companies are improving the hardware, so it's a fight between hardware and software!

The Samsung A9 is what Samsung says is more budget friendly as it comes in for around $725 USD. Well it is important to keep in mind that this is not Samsung's best phone and though it might have a better camera it doesn't have as good specs like the flagships.

So what are the functions of these 4 cameras?

Well each of the four cameras has a different thing to do!

  1. 8 Mega-pixel Ultra Wide Camera

  2. 10 Mega-pixel tele-photo Camera

  3. The main 24 Mega-pixel Camera

  4. Finally 5 Mega-pixel depth Camera

The Main Advantage of So Many Cameras

The main advantage of having so many cameras is the flexibility one has! You can get close to an object, you can a wider shot and you so you have a lot options. This way you can shoot your subject from a distance and also by being very near. The wide camera allows one to get much more in one picture while the tele-photo camera allows you to get close real close to your subject without loosing any picture quality.

The A9 comes in 2 super cool colors aside from the black one

  1. Bubble Gum Pink

  2. Lemonade Blue

Inside the A9 we get to see a Snapdragon 660 which is a mid-range chip, so you can't expect the A9 to run games as good as the S9 or the Note 9 series, however we do have to keep in mind that the A9 is much more cheaper compared to the S9 and the Note 9.

The A9 has a huge 3800 mAH battery which brings it very close to the Note 9. Due to this and the Snapdragon 660 we can expect the A9 to have a killer battery life.

It has 128 GB of internal storage and 6 GB Ram. It also has a fingerprint sensor at the back and also features the old-school, space taking, not so necessary headphone jack!

The Set-Backs

One has to keep in mind that this is not a flagship phone by Samsung and it's not near the price point of the 'S' series and the 'Note' series, so Samsung hasn't put in the top notch specs in it. The screen of the A9 compared to the flagship series the contrast isn't the same.

The Samsung A9 doesn't support wireless charging, and isn't waterproof either.

Though the back of the phone looks gorgeous it doesn't have actual glass like it's older brother the Note 9!

According to Youtuber Mrwhosetheboss:

"Even though the cameras offer more flexibility they aren't higher quality"

And that's a very important thing! Samsung added 4 cameras to make the picture quality look stunning, and well it does take good pictures but not stunning, in fact it takes much worse pictures then one might expect. The main shooter takes good pictures, but when you switch to the wide-angle and the tele-photo lens you can see that the pictures seem to loose details a ton. The 2 times zoom in tele-photo sensor doesn't do a good job with the white-balance either! We can see that by the pictures taken by the channel "Tech Chap"

The depth sensor does a terrible job as well, the portrait mode on the A9 looks extremely bad, it seems really fake and it doesn't isolate the subject as good. Below are some pictures taken by "Tech Chap"

However the phone is still not out for the public and still has per-release software. We would love to check out the Samsung A9 when it comes out. It would also be very interesting to see the how the camera of the A9 compares with the Google Pixel 3 which has only 1 camera and uses software to enhance the picture quality!
