Living with a 6 year old Samsung!

While everyone is looking forward to upgrade to the latest iPhone or the Note 9, I took a step back and down-graded to a 6 year old Samsung phone. I stopped using my Mi A1 and started using the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus (S7500).

This my friends is a phone that Samsung launched in the early 2012 and it wasn't the best phone of that time either. But just how good was Samsung at making phones 6 years ago!

Before starting to use the phone I had flashed CyanogenMod 11 and for some reason couldn't get back to recovery mode to put back the original OS.

And even worse was that I couldn't download Google Apps on it so no Google Play Store or any other Google App, because ... Google!

So I downloaded APKPure an another app store that has almost all the apps and it's trusted as well. I managed to download 2 basic apps, "WhatsApp" and Facebook Messenger. And from then on that's it!

Whenever I tried downloading something for some reason the download froze and the app didn't download at all!

That was annoying!

But I still stuck to using the phone, and I have to say I really had a lot of unnecessary stuff in my old (new) phone!

I just didn't find the need of using many of them.

So how's the performance of this 6 year old phone?

With a Snapdroagon S1 this phone just shows how much tech has advanced. The phone is really sluggish even after overclocking the CPU, it doesn't seem to make things better. The poor Snapdragon S1 just can't handle simple things like animations. Sure it does show me some animations pretty normally, but animations in whatsapp and messenger just suck!

I usually found that playing videos within What'sApp crashed it! However it seems to handle other tasks fairly well!

Using messenger is even harder than What'sApp. The chat heads make this phone completely un-usable!

What do I think about that screen!

Well to be honest I didn't find the small screen very annoying, sure the keyboard get's small but typing on it, didn't seem really bad. The touch responsiveness isn't the best either but it doesn't get frustrating!

When I check out other phones that are not 6 years old I am surprised that how big the screen is, because I am used to the tiny 3.65 inch screen!

How well does it take pictures?

Well in my opinion it takes great pictures. These pictures are actually really nice especially considering the phone's age!

Oh yes it does have an FM radio and a headphone jack. Bet you can't find that in your flashy new iPhone XS, now can you?

The feel of a 6 year old phone

The phone feels very old ! It's thick, it's made up of plastic and overall it just feels old. Compared to a modern phone (even budget phones) it feels really cheap, besides I managed to break the back cover and so now it's loose and comes of with just a little shock

However when it comes off by that little shock, one is greeted with it's massive 1300 mAh battery. Now the battery hasn't stayed in good condition either, the battery life has reduced significantly, but I easily got more than a day of use because my use included seeing the time, using the calculator, receiving 1 or 2 calls and checking messages!

Overall I have to say the phone did make me realize how much has technology advance in this period of time. I remember watching videos on this guy but today it's life is over and it can't be used as your primary phone in 2018!

If you have an old phone like this lying around then we've got a video for you that you can watch!
